Today is February 17, 2014…exactly 48 days since the new year started. We’re already two federal holidays, one national holiday and a Super Bowl into the year. If anyone is thinking about their new year resolutions at this point it’s either about how they’ve long since abandoned the notion or they’re fighting to keep the resolutions alive.
But what if, like me, you weren’t ready to resolve a whole lot 48 days ago? Or, like me, you’re ready to act on some things now that weren’t even on your mind 48 days ago? What’s stopping us from creating some resolutions today?
The answer, of course, is nothing.
Nothing is stopping us from starting something now.
Nothing is stopping us from reworking something now.
Nothing is stopping us from setting a new goal and pursuing it.
Nothing is stopping us from starting fresh even though it’s not the new year anymore.
If you have clarity or insight or a renewed vision for something now (or 48 days from now), start doing it. Resolve to do it. Resolve to change. Resolve to be better.
Just because our calendars don’t say January 1 doesn’t mean a we can’t start a new year today.
