Four Things I Found Interesting This Week
Thursday, December 4th, 2008I hate a generic title for a blog post but I didn’t know anything else to say. These are just a few things I found interesting this week that I don’t want to develop into full-fledged posts, but think they’re worth passing along.
Yahoo! announced their most searched terms of 2008. Be on the lookout for Google’s list coming soon. It’s always very different from Yahoo’s list. (HT: Keystone Business Solutions blog)
Why aren’t more marketers using widgets? This was an interesting article about the usefulness of widgets. Personally, I’m seeing there are two views on widgets these days. Some people see them as the evolution of banner ads. Other people see them as e-commerce opportunities. I lean toward the latter idea and think MediaForge is doing a great job with this.
Traffic is more important than search rankings. This is an interesting article about how Google’s new SearchWiki may change the face of search engine optimization and that in the end, traffic will be the most important thing. It’s an interesting perspective and one that could shake up the SEO world a bit in the future if it plays out this way. In the end, I always say content is the most important thing because good content can help you gain and retain traffic. This is also a good reminder why I don’t enjoy the world of SEO.
The song “Last Christmas” has an entire website dedicated to it. This site has been tracking all the versions of the song for the last three years, and to date there are 334 versions. What did we ever do before the Internet? (HT: Alison Groves via Twitter)
