Monday’s Stats: Netflix Milestone, Facebook Engagement & Magazines for iPad

One Billion Hours of Netflix
Netflix is in the news again. This time it’s because they’ve reached a milestone, according to their CEO. He announced on his Facebook page last week that Netflix viewing exceeded one billion hours in the month of June. Whatever issues people had with Netflix and their pricing changes several months ago, those problems seem to have been forgotten. They’re doing quite well.

Facebook Redesign Hurt Tab/App Engagement
Facebook’s big Page redesign to the Timeline format in the Spring had business owners and marketing departments scrambling. One of the big questions the whole time was whether or not engagement was going to be helped or hurt. While there have been reports that engagement on the Wall has increased, a new report shows that Tab engagement (those other boxes at the top of your page people can click on) has actually dropped 53%. Though the tabs have a more visible presence now than the older designs, this is an interesting report.

Next Issue Give Unlimited Magazine Access
A new app has just been released to iPad that will be the Spotify of the magazine world. Next Issue has partnered up with some of the big name magazine publishers to offer unlimited pricing plans. For $9.99 or $14.99 per month, subscribers get access to a big list of magazines and their back issues. Should be interesting to see how this goes. Spotify has taken off like crazy but I wonder if the same thing will work in the world of magazines. It’s an fascinating idea for sure.
